Local Scene: Rock Hill

A Series on Enjoying the Fun Around Charlotte with Famililes

By Union County Macaroni Kid June 12, 2023

Rock Hill has steadily been growing for years and in 2021 was one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. While that may not be happy news to some, for MacaroniKID - we love small businesses and a growing town means more opportunities to have family fun with small and locally owned businesses!

There’s tons to do here in Rock Hill and we’re highlighting some of our favorite ways to spend a day in this crossroads of culture, history and southern charm!

The perfect day for us starts with breakfast at Amelie’s - they have one of the best croissants in the Charlotte area and I do love a fancy coffee!

Grabbing those to-go and sitting in Glencairn gardens while the kids ride scooters or bikes. Before we head over to the Main Street Children’s Museum. Whether you are there to just hang out or participate in the Wee Wednesday / Messy Maestros, its perfect for your elementary-aged kids and toddlers. Bring a change of clothes for the water table if your little loves water!

After the museum is a perfect time to walk through the Freedom Walkway and then grab lunch - We love Ay Papi Tacos and Millstone Pizza and Taphouse for easy lunches - if you want something more substantial, you migh pop into Kounter Dining on Main Street - the food is amazing and Chef Rob pours his heart into every dish.

Depending on your kids’ ages (or if you’ve left them at home!), you could spend part of your afternoon shopping in Old town - hitting up our favorite spot, the Mercantile, and make a succulent terrarium or grab a snack on the terrace after checking out the clothing or home goods over at their other location.

And our favorite ways to cap off a great day in Rock Hill include a visit to one of our three favorite parks. My boys love BMX park since its so great for bigger kids - though its a bit off the beaten path. I’d grab a snack before I headed that way - maybe a shake from Ninety’s or some ice cream from Two Scoops and let the kids run off the sugar!

And, depending on the day/night, you might even catch some music at Fountain Park.

All of our favorites are linked below and we’d love to hear what you love!
