Local Scene: Plaza Midwood

A Series on Enjoying the Fun Around Charlotte with Famililes

By South Charlotte Macaroni Kid May 1, 2023

Next in our series of enjoying Queen City and its surroundings is Plaza Midwood. This hip little neighborhood is popular for its easy boho vibe and cool locally-owned businesses. Plaza Midwood is the perfect neighborhood to take your teen, with the shopping and amazing eateries, you'll be the cool one again in no time.

Start your day with coffee and fluffy doughnuts at Milkbread. In addition to the fluffiest doughnuts you've had, they have a whole host of breakfast items including gourmet toast and bowls. If you get a late start, Milkbread also has an incredible lunch menu as well. Pro tip: Don't miss the fried chicken

After breakfast you have options! Hit Veterans Park for a walk and explore one of the best parks in Charlotte.

If you're looking for some shopping? I am a little hesitant to share this first place because I love it so much and kind of want to keep it to myself and the Plaza Midwood locals. Thrift Pony is hands down the best consignment store in Charlotte, the clothes range from trendy to vintage, and things so outrageous you'd expect to see them on Harry Styles. Follow their Instagram for weekly themed sales. They also have an amazing rental room if you need something fancy for an event.

Next hit Lunchbox Records and flip through some vinyl. Records are so on trend now and flipping through the records will take you back to your teen years when you'd hang out in record stores to listen to music and look at album covers (I'm looking at you Tower Records).

Book lovers will enjoy spending the afternoon at Book Buyers.  Book Buyers is filled with used and vintage books in addition they host events including poetry readings and author events.

If you're ready for some more shopping Moxie Mercantile is packed with clothes, gifts, and home items. They have some unique gifts as well.

Ready for lunch? Hit up DIsh if you're looking for some good comfort food. If you're in the mood for ethnic food, just walk down Central Ave, and pick one! You can't go wrong.

After lunch take a walking tour of the neighborhood, or explore the murals that are prevalent throughout Plaza Midwood. There really is no bad way to spend the day in Plaza Midwood!
