July makes me think of summer camp, lazy days at the beach/pool and the kids playing outside for hours. This fun holiday calendar also reminds us that it’s a great month of food celebrations. Blueberries, ice cream, french fries and hot dogs. The perfect summer food. No matter what you eat Macaroni Kid hopes to inspire you to create family experiences you’ll never forget all summer long.
Celebrate these things all month long:
- National Blueberry Month
- National Anti-Boredom Month
- National Cell Phone Courtesy Month
- National Hot Dog Month
- National Ice Cream Month
- National Picnic Month
July 1 - Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
- What does licorice, garlic, rum raisin, horseradish, pizza and lobster have in common? They are all creative and yucky sounding ice cream flavors you can choose on Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day. Just in time for this fun holiday The Cupcake Queen Waxhaw rolled out a case full of gourmet ice cream flavors TUESDAY, June 30th! And while you are there, grab yourself some of her delicious cupcakes, cake pops or other tasty treats! Or, if you'd rather tackle this on your own, have your kids create their own creative ice cream flavors! If you need some inspiration (and instructions) on ways to Make Some Seriously Awesome Ice Cream we’ve got you covered.
July 4 - Independence Day
- Did you know three Presidents of the United States died on July 4th? Thomas Jefferson and John Adams who were rivals but became BFFs in their later years both died hours apart on Independence Day 1826. Supposedly, the final words from John Adams were, "Thomas Jefferson survives." But since communication was a lot slower back then (before Facebook) he had no idea that Jefferson died a few hours earlier. As for the third President who died on July 4th, it was James Monroe but in 1831.

July 10 - Teddy Bear Picnic Day
- A fun way for your kids to share a meal outside this summer with a “friend” is a Teddy Bear (named after President Theodore Roosevelt) picnic. No social distancing or masks required.
- Perfect Pint-Size Picnic Ideas
- Perfect Picnic Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakes
July 13 - National French Fries Day
- Growing up we’d beg my mom to make “sillies”. I have no idea why we called them that but they were homemade french fries and they were THE BEST! Turns out they’re also super easy to make.
- Make Your Own French Fries
- Healthier French Fries (they’re baked)
July 15 - National Hot Dog Day
- Not only is July National Hot Dog Month but it also gets its own special day. Hot dogs were brought to the US by German immigrants in the 19th century and have become one of the most popular American foods. Whether you like ‘em with ketchup or mustard, celebrate today with a dog.
- Hot Dog and Fries Cake
July 16 - World Snake Day

July 24 - Amelia Earhart Day
- The disappearance of Amelia Earhart is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries but her contribution to women is undeniable. Read with your kids about her great accomplishments.
July 25 - Threading the Needle Day
- While you could take the more literal translation, Threading the Needle is also a Yoga Pose! Tyler Baudoin, the owner of Monroe Massage Yoga in downtown Monroe, told us that "it is said that "Thread the needle" promotes harmony and strikes a balance between conflicting forces." In these uncertain times Monroe Massage Yoga is thankful to still be providing massage therapy and yoga to the community to bring some balance to your body, mind & soul.
