Local Scene: Fort Mill, SC

A Series on Enjoying the Fun Around Charlotte with Famililes

By Union County Macaroni Kid May 29, 2023

Fort Mill, South Carolina, has been one of my favorite "hidden" gems since we moved here. I used to love teaching in Baxter Village and, now that I have my own kiddos, I'm in awe of how much its grown. Between Baxter Village, Kingsley and downtown Fort Mill, there are tons of restaurants and activities to enjoy.

Here's how we would spend the perfect day in Fort Mill:

Grab some brekky at one of our favorite family-owned spots, Z Bakery and Cafe. From pastries to eggs, there is something for everyone at this sweet house-turned-bakery. If that's not your speed, you can check out Flipside Cafe ~ another fan-fave in the area.

From there, round up your family for a morning of adventure - hiking, kayaking, boating or riding at Anne Springs Close Greenway. We particularly love it in the mornings, since the Carolinas heat up this time of year and afternoons can be quite hot. Work up an appetite and eat at the Greenway or you can head back into town for a quick bite when you're all through.

Here are some of our favorite lunch spots by area:

Baxter Village

~ Ilios Crafted Greek
~ Fish Market
~ Lucky Duck
~ McAlisters
~ Killingtons

Kingsley

~ Taco Molino
~ Brixx
~ Carolina Ale House
~ Epic Chophouse
~ Napa at Kingsley
~ Smash Burger
~ Replay Brewing
~ Spice Asian Kitchen
~ Panera

Downtown

~ Hobo's
~ Emmet's Social Table
~ Improper Pig
~ FM Eatery

Don't forget to treat yourself to dessert from either of these two Baxter spots:

Chocolat Boutique

Cupcrazed

SHOPPING

If you've not had enough yet - and depending on where you've eaten, you might also want to hit up some of the cute shops that call Fort Mill Home:

Baxter Village boasts KatyLoo Boutique and Page Six, while you'll find Broadcloth Boutique and kids-fave Small Hands Big Art for creating. If hanging out in Downtown Fort Mill is your speed, you'll find Crossings on Main, Pucker Butt Pepper Company, Moxie Mercantile and the Flower Bar. You could even take a pottery class for yourself at Olives Mud Puddle.

PLAY

If shopping isn't your thing, head over to Walter Elisha park and try out the new playground equipment - it recently got an upgrade and is loads of fun. Plus there's plenty of space to kick or throw a ball and just run around!

And, all summer long, the Thursday night concert series at The Anne Springs Close Greenway is a fan-fave as is just hanging out at Replay Brewing or any of the restaurants at Kingsley, letting the kiddos run while you sip something refreshing.
