Mardi Gras is February 13th

By Rebecca Plaisance February 5, 2024

Every February in the city of New Orleans they celebrate the holiday of Mardi Gras. The celebration reaches a fever pitch on "Fat Tuesday".  During Mardi Gras, people wear colorful costumes and masks, parade around the streets, and throw beads and other trinkets to revelers.

Mardi Gras is the last chance to celebrate before the solemn period of Lent begins. Mardi Gras in New Orleans often gets a bad rap, there is much more to the celebration than the French Quarter. Parades and activities are family-friendly, in fact, schools close in New Orleans for the Mardi Gras holiday.

The parades run through the whole city and there are areas where families gather along the route to watch the parades and catch the prizes. You can watch the parades live this year, they will be live-streamed at this link
