Donuts are a central part of our families Hanukkah celebration! In Israel sufganiyot (Israeli donuts) are on a whole other level! Bakery windows are filled with the most delicious and creative donut creations you have ever seen. Sufganiyot are part of the celebration of Hanukkah because they are fried in oil. The oil helps to represent the miracle of Hanukkah, the oil that lasted for 8 days, not just the one that it was meant for. Charlotte has some great options to help you get into the spirit of Hanukkah, who doesn't love a holiday where you are supposed to eat donuts! Traditionally we eat donuts filled with jelly but there is no reason you can't grab whatever your family loves! Truthfully, there is nothing not to love about donuts unless you're a grammar nerd like me and lose 30 minutes of your life researching the "doughnut vs. donut" spelling of the word. I have opted for "donut" as it is how the majority of the shops have spelled the word, it was a little painful for me to not use the "doughnut" spelling which is how I generally spell the word. No matter how you spell it, we can all agree that these fried dough treats make everyone happy!
