It's NOT Just An Illusion ~ Charlotte Has a New Museum!

Museum of Illusions, Charlotte, is NOW OPEN and PERFECT for Family Fun, esp. Teens/Tween

By Union County Macaroni Kid December 9, 2022

It's been more than a decade since Charlotte has gotten a new Museum but this past Friday, the Museum of Illusions opened Uptown and it was worth the wait!

Started in 2015, the Museum of Illusions is a global organization that first came on the scene in 2015. The Charlotte location is its largest in the United States and boasts more than 60 mind-bending exhibits including holographs, illusions and other unique and photo-worthy tricks of the eye and brain!

As a family-fun focused publication, the real question we had while touring it was: Is this truly a family-friendly museum? YES!

While some of the holographic exhibits are definitely placed above the heads of *most* children under 10, this hands-on exhibit is definitely accessible to and fun for all. From the interactive games to the rooms with slanted floors and vortex tunnel, there is something for everyone. And, for families with pre-teens and teens, this is a major WIN! The whole museum features interactive art that is perfect for the 'gram and TikTok!

Open 7-days a week, the museum is located on the first floor of the Ally Building at 601 S. Tryon.  Reservations may be made online ONLY and adult tickets are $24, Children 5-12 are $20 and Seniors (60+) are $22. While tickets grant you entry for a specified time and date, your visit isn't timed - meaning you can stay as long as you'd like (typically people spend 45-60 minutes exploring and enjoying.) Children under 5 are always free. And, in addition to ticketed entry, the Museum of Illusions will also welcome school groups and private events - and would definitely make for a really unique field trip!

When we asked MOI Charlotte's Marketing and Sales Manager about the possibility for family-friendly events, she intimated me that these will come, in time. In fact, the Chicago Location is hosting a kid's scavenger hunt for the holidays! I can't wait to see what fun is in store here in our beloved Queen City.

We are so excited to welcome the Museum of Illusions Charlotte to the Queen City and can't wait to hear what you think!
