Ahoy matey! In honor of Talk like a Pirate Day, September 19th, we've rounded up some of the top Pirate Destinations in North and South Carolina. We are lucky to have so many family-friendly pirate adventures close to home! These are best for a long weekend pirate getaway, as they are mainly in Charleston, Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks.

Some of the fun that can be had in Charleston includes a Pirate Adventure cruise. With a full crew, the Black Ghost sets sail on a treasure-hunting adventure. Keeping an eye out for Skallwags, the crew knows Sneaky Pete could be anywhere. Battling with water cannons, sharing the treasure of gold and jewels and partying only like Pirates can, our crew enjoys the spoils of real Pirating. We cruise the Charleston harbor and surrounding creeks. Take in the fantastic views and watch your kids have the best day ever!

There are three different pirate ship adventures to be had in Hilton Head. One is the Hilton Head Pirate Ship Adventure aboard the Black Dagger, which has little pirates and their parents embarking on a sea adventure aboard the Black Dagger pirate ship. Kids are transformed into little pirates for a treasure hunt on the waters of Hilton Head. The crew provides kids with pirate costumes and pirate lessons before setting sail in search of treasure. This family-friendly cruise has a choice of several departures in the morning and afternoon, making it easy to fit into your schedule.

Also in Hilton Head, is the Hilton Head pirate ship adventure aboard the Black Sparrow. On this cruise, let your inner buccaneer out to play as you set sail off the coast of Hilton Head Island. This cruise was specifically created for kids and includes fun details such as face paint, pirate gear, and fake tattoos so you can look the part, plus water cannons for a blast of entertainment.

Another option in Hilton Head is a Dolphin tour on a pirate ship. This one takes your sailing in search of dolphins. You may also see manatees, sea turtles and osprey in your 1.5 hours on the sea.

Nags Head has Pamlico Jacks, a pirate-themed restaurant, complete with a patio designed to look like the deck of a pirate ship. There is a fantastic kids menu and who doesn’t want to play on a pirate ship during dinner? Kids get gold doubloons and coloring sheets as well.

For kids 9 and up, Nags Head has First Flight Adventure Park. This zipline, obstacle and ropes course is sure to delight the pirate in you!

Last up, you can find the Pirates Voyage and Dinner Show in Myrtle Beach. Follow Blackbeard and Calico Jack as they lead their crews in battles on land, air, water and deck in their indoor hideaway lagoon. See mermaids, tropical birds and enjoy a pirate feast as well!

As you can see, there are many pirate adventures to be had all over North and South Carolina. Shiver me timbers matey! For planning help and more pirate ideas, reach out to Susan Shure at susanshuretravel.com
