Day Trippin! Ideas for a Fun Day in CLT

By South Charlotte Macaroni Kid August 9, 2021

Be a tourist in our own city! The Queen City is a beauty and filled with great events, activities, shopping, and unique neighborhoods. If you're like me you never think to take advantage of all that our city has to offer. With plenty of the summer left, here are some ideas to be a tourist in our own city.

Start the day off with breakfast at Sunflour Baking Company, fuel up with some great coffee, a delish pastry, and get ready for a day of fun.

From Sunflour, head to Uptown and go on a mural hunt. Uptown is covered with beautiful murals, kids will love the hunt. You can walk or drive to see them. You can use these mural guides to get started (part 1 and part 2) or check out  murals.clt and cltmuralmonday for more ideas.

After your mural tour, hit the South End Rail Trail, this trail connects Uptown and South End. Walk, bike or roller skate your way to the South End. Once you make it to South End, the lunch options are endless. Here is a list of places you can choose from! Treat the kid to ice cream from Jeni’s of Golden Cow Creamery after you eat.

If the kids are still ready to play, you can hit Freedom Park and let the kids run the NFL Play 60 Kids Zone or the splash pad at Dilworth Neighborhood Park, both are just a short drive from South End. If you decide to check out Freedom Park, Discovery Place Nature is adjacent to the park and a ton of fun for the kiddos.

If you’ve made it this far your kids are either exhausted and going to need some Chick-f-la for the road or they are rock stars and you can grab dinner before you head home! For dinner check out Sal’s Pizza Factory, this Jersey-style pizza joint just opened its second location, the pizza here is legit.

Uptown Charlotte offers families a ton of options for fun here are some additional unique ideas that you can either work into your itinerary or substitute for some of the ideas we shared.
