Looking to try a new activity or just beat the heat with some family fun? There are several places to fish, kayak and canoe in the Charlotte area even if you don't have the equipment! Many of the locations listed below also offer great hiking, nature centers, and other activities. Children 16 and up are required to have a fishing license. Cane Creek Park
5213 Harkey Road, Waxhaw: At Cane Creek Park not only can you fish but you can also pedal boat, kayak, camp and mini-golf.
Francis Beatty Park
4330 Weddington Road, Matthews: In addition to fishing, you can kayak and hit one of the best playgrounds in Charlotte.
Mecklenburg Parks
The local park system offers a community fishing program as well. You can visit their website for a full list of parks as well as what each pond is stocked with.
Latta Plantation Nature Preserve
6211 Sample Road, Huntersville: Fishing, kayaks, canoes, and hiking are all available here.
McDowell Nature Preserve
15222 York Road: Fishing, hiking, kayaking and planned activities at the nature center.
Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve
2900 Rocky River Road: Fishers here can catch bass and bluegill fish

Anne Springs Greenway
2573 Lake Haigler, Fort Mill: Reservations are required and days are limited for non-members, check their website before you head out.
