Being from Chicago, we used to eat out a lot. When we first moved to the Charlotte area, we were less than thrilled with our dining options. But in 10 years, we've seen so many great new concepts arrive and one of our most favorites has been Emmets Social Table in downtown Waxhaw.
When Megan and Dan Giroux opened Emmet's Social Table in 2018, it was instantly a hit. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was fun and inviting and the service was impeccable. It easily became one of our family's favorite spots for lunch and dinner. Our kids, while picky, could always find something they loved and were particularly happy when we could order a bunch of small plates so they could try new things, too.
Last year, just before the COV-19 Pandemic really took hold here in the Carolinas, they signed a lease on the old Center Theater building in downtown Fort Mill. And then, we all know how these last 15 months have gone. Thankfully, undeterred by the world around them, the Giroux's kept plugging forward and this week are opening the doors to their second Emmet's Social Table (Fort Mill)!
We got to pop in last week for a soft opening and friends/family night. It's not often that a restaurant can replicate the same vibe a second time, but they hit the nail on the head here! Emmet's Fort Mill has everything that its sister location in Waxhaw has: delicious food, impeccable service and an awesome atmosphere. With both indoor and outdoor dining, as well as bar service and to-go options, this is a must-add to your culinary rotation!
Take a peek at this video tour we did:
We started with two of our favorites ~ the Glazed Brussels and the Fried Green Tomatoes. Both were prepared to perfection and set the mood for us to enjoy our evening. And, of course, we had to pair those with some cocktails ~ hubs ordered the Fig Fashioned and I got the Waxhaw Mule. Both were absolutely delicious!
We then deviated from our regular order and, in addition to the Avocado Tuna poke (a staple of mine), we tried the B&B Flatbread, the South Main Deggs and Lettuce Wraps. We normally order the figgy Flatbread and while my mom ad husband have had the deviled eggs, they were new to me! Topped with a pepper jelly drizzle and pork belly, those (D)eggs were pretty fantastic and I don't know if I can ever have a basic deviled egg again! The B & B Flatbread was absolutely delicious - topped with black tenderloin, carmelized onions, blue cheese and a spinach balsamic glaze - I could have stopped with that.
I'm glad I didn't, though. We had been dying to try the Oyster Sliders and when I say this, I want you to hear me: THESE ARE A MUST! When they first arrived at our table, we were certain that there'd been a mistake: we thought that the kitchen sent us a fish sandwich; the oysters were THAT large. Light and airy, fried to perfection, these gigantic oysters atop a sweet bun with horseradish sauce, these were a treat.
We couldn't call it a night until I'd satisfied my sweet tooth. And, since hubs was too full to join me, I was FORCED to get the cobbler. Don't worry, though, after hearing my delight, he grabbed a spoon and joined me. Made with fresh local peaches and topped with vanilla ice cream from the Waxhaw Creamery, it was true perfection and the best way to end our night.
