While I'm not quite sure how we already got to April 1st, but here we are! I'm not the sneakiest parent in the biz, but I do love a good prank every now and then.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, legends have it that April Fools’ Day began in France in 1564. Prior to 1564, April 1st used to be celebrated as New Year’s Day. Those who insisted on celebrating the “old” New Year’s became known as April fools and it became common to play jokes on one another.

Here are 7 great pranks to pull on your kids or your partner this Thursday (April 1st):

  • Make their cereal the night before and stick it in the freezer - it will be frozen when the go to eat breakfast in the morning!
  • Pop over to your favorite donut shop and ask for an extra dozen box; stash the real sweets aside and in the extra box, take your magic marker and write "April Fools" - they'll open an empty box and you'll laugh!
  • Change up their room - move the furniture or move the pictures - while they sleep!
  • Pack a "silly lunch" or serve Dinner for Breakfast
  • Stage a "Growth Spurt" - serve up a healthy meal the night before and warn them they might grow. Then move out some of their well-fitting clothing and replace it with stuff that's way too small. They'll think they grew!
  • Make "Brown E"s - cut out some brown "E"s from construction paper or cardboard and place them in your regular brownie pan. Cover with foil and serve up for dessert!
  • "Freeze" their technology! ~ Take a screenshot of their smartphone or computer screens, and leave the image open or turn it into their screen saver. This easy April Fools’ prank is great for kids who are addicted to their phones. Let them freak out for a few minutes as they think their screen is frozen before you come in to save the day.

Whatever you do, make sure to make it light-hearted and silly and have a great day with your family!
