Not Your Moms Mineral Sunscreen

Tiff's Tips on SPF

By Tiffany Huber ~ Owner and Licensed Esthetician at TBH Skincare Spa, Indian Trail August 10, 2020

While summer is nearing its end, the need for SPF is NOT. You. may think that you only need it when you are by the pool or playing golf, but your skin is exposed to the sun - especially in Charlotte - year round! And, once the temperatures begin to drop again - and take that awful humidity with it - you'll probably be outside more than ever (especially now, with home-based learning on the agenda!).

So, how do you protect your skin? One in 5 Americans develop skin cancer!  The best way to protect your skin is a great mineral sunscreen. Yes, in the past mineral sunscreens left a white cast on the skin ~ but no more!  Say HELLO to nano-sized minerals and goodbye to chalky skin.

Tiff’s tips on mineral SPF:

  • Use 30 SPF at a minimum
  • It is antibacterial, and calming
  • Is not absorbed by the skin
  • Gentle and safe
  • Reapply every two hours
  • Wear everyday
  • Don't forget lips, tops of ears need spf too
  • Remember that titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the power team of protection and are two of the FDA approved ingredients in a good mineral sunscreen
  • Look for the term "broad spectrum," as this means it will protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays

My favorite is Jan Marini tinted 45 spf for your face for 3 reasons: it is your antioxidant, spf and your tinted glow to go. Another great option is Sun Bum - it's perfect for the whole family, it is safe and smells amazing.

No matter what sunscreen - mineral or otherwise - you chose, make sure you apply it generously and continuously throughout the day. Your skin is your largest organ and it needs your love and attention!
