Day Trip Idea: Charlotte Murals Part 2

By Rachael Weiss ~ Publisher, Union County Macaroni Kid August 3, 2020

Earlier this summer we suggested you hit the town to look for some awesome murals - and while we tried to hit the big ones, we missed so many! Charlotte's street art scene is really unparalleled and we are coming back for round two.

With one Superhero-obsessed and the other animal-obsessed, we took another stab at some area Murals last week - this time, we concentrated on some favorites in Plaza Midwood. The map below will help you find them!

Do the Things the Light You Up by Duarte Designs and the Traveling Gypsy is a gorgeous reminder that life should make you happy - whenever possible - and that you are in control of your own destiny. During these challenging times, the reminder was as much for me as it was a lesson for my kids. Plus, its pretty :-) It sits along the parking lot side of Two Scoops Creamery on the edge of Plaza Midwood and Midtown and is down the street from one of our favorite pizza joints, Intermezzo

Right next to Do the Things that Light You Up is this giant ice cream cone that my kids begged me to lift them up to "lick." Being that its Corona and that I was taking pics, we did not capture that!

If you are a Marvel® fan, you will want to head up to Seventh Sin Tattoo in Plaza Midwood and check out this amazing Thanos mural by Southern Tiger Collective.

You can't have a Super Villain without a team determined to stop him. And my smallest is a a die-hard Captain America fan - followed only by his love for Iron Man. This wall sits behind the Midwood Smokehouse in Plaza Midwood and captures the essences of our dear Captain, Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman and a few others. We got there too early for lunch, but you could easily grab a bite to eat and then head out back for the mural!

I'd seen so many bloggers posting about these steps and they did NOT disappoint! They are vibrant and happy - and right along the greenway. Suggestion: bring the bikes and scooters or the jogging stroller and make this part of your day. You can park over by Freedom Park and then take the greenway up into Midtown, stop along the way to see the murals and then grab a bite or a drink at any of the restaurants in Midtown.

And even though this kid looks bothered (he was HOT), this was his favorite mural. It was a big cat mural on the side of The Batch House where we stopped for some of the BEST ice cream sandwiches we've had in a LONG time. This gem is located just outside Uptown is definitely worth a stop! Unfortunately, I didn't see who created this art - but if your kid is into big cats, this is a stop you must make.

We'll be back with a third installment of murals, since we know you love them, when the weather is a bit cooler. It's just so stinking hot out! Until then, you can always head out to some of the originals in the first article or explore on your own and let me know what your favorites are!
