Family Games ~ Try an Escape Room

By Rachael Weiss ~ Publisher, Union County Macaroni Kid June 22, 2020

Being home for 3 months has had its perks ~ we've really gotten into the idea of family game nights! Plus, the hubs and I have started playing games like scrabble and cards once the kids go to bed instead of just watching TV. But, we've started to exhaust our game cabinet.

Now that the state is slowly reopening, it may be a good time to explore some of the alternative game options you can enjoy around town. Before we went on stay-home orders, we tried out Waxhaw Escape on Providence Road and had a blast!

Our experience was a little different, as we went with some friends, but could have easily taken our kids (if they were older - ours are still little, as you know!) for a fun family outing. We were escorted back to our room, blindfolded, and once the door closed, we entered the game. We had one hour to try to escape our Train to Nowhwere and - thankfully - we made it out. It was challenging and fun, with a dose of panic when we got stuck on a few puzzles. Of the four of us, three of us had previously participated in an escape room and agreed that this one was creative and fun, and really tested our teamwork!

Waxhaw Escape boasts two traditional escape rooms and a Virtual Reality room with two game options. In fact, its one of the only locations on the East Coast with this technology and its a fan fave among families with gamers!

Whether you are looking for your next family outing, a parents night out or a birthday party location for your tween/teen, here are a few reasons that Waxhaw Escape is a great way to have safe fun, outside the house:

  • All games are private. It’s just you and your family or social bubble friends. No strangers will join you in your game.
  • Game times have been adjusted so that only one group of players is in the lobby at a time.
  • The time scheduled between games has been doubled so that your game will have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
  • Game Masters will be wearing masks during your orientation and after your game, and they will adhere to social distancing guidelines.
