Optimism is Contagious: Let's Spread It

A Note from Your Publisher

By Rachael Weiss ~ Publisher, Union County Macaroni Kid April 27, 2020

There's a light at the end of this tunnel, for now and I'm going all in to embrace it! Over the next month, the whole state will reawaken from this nightmare and, while things will be different for a long time - maybe even forever - I truly believe we are stronger because we've worked together. So this week, I want to look into the light and recognize the great things coming.

We are kicking off our inaugural Gold Daisy School Awards next week - and this will be amazing! Thanks to our sponsors, Spivey Insurance Group and Move Pack Clean, we will be awarding the winning school with a generous financial contribution to help support school activities. You guys....THIS. IS. BIG. So make sure to support your local elementary school in this contest! And, for those of you wondering: what about Middle and High School? Friends, I will get those started this fall. Daisy's honor!

The weather is AMAZING - and the Governor has opened tennis courts and other sporting fields. Be mindful of your surroundings and try to still maintain physical distance but GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY! Playgrounds will be open soon enough - and while we still need to exercise caution and good hand-washing is key - be patient, all is coming!

GIVEAWAYS GALORE! - did you see that South Charlotte Macaroni Kid and I have teamed up with local businesses to offer you a zillion amazing giveaways on our Instagram? If you don't follow us, now's the time to start. Our handles are: @unioncountymackid and @mackidclt

Mostly, I think we need to celebrate how adaptable and amazing we are as a community. Call a friend - tell them they're doing an amazing job pandemic schooling; reach out to a small business that's made a HUGE pivot in the way they operate and let them know that you support them; thank our front-line workers EVERY TIME YOU SEE THEM - that means our postal workers, our grocery store stockers, our doctors and other first responders. One thank you will go a VERY long way. Imagine what 100 or 200 will do?

Friends, we've got this. We're amazing humans and working together has made us better.
