Absolutely Terrific Kid Day is March 19th - Meet Cecilia Luzarraga

Kumon Learning Center Wesley Chapel Recognizes One of its Most Terrific!

By Ami Gandhi and Rachael Weiss March 16, 2020

Union County Macaroni Kid first approached Kumon Learning Center when we learned that March 19th is Absolutely Terrific Kid day. And, while Center Director Ami Gandhi told us that all of her students are pretty terrific, that one student - Cecilia Luzarraga - stood out the most. And, after getting to know this 11-year-old, Fifth Grader from Antioch Elementary, we couldn't agree more! According to Ami, Cecilia was chosen as Kumon Wesley Chapel's Terrific Kid for several reasons.

The staff at Kumon of Wesley Chapel can attest to the fact that she is a kind and caring person.  She is always willing to lend a helping hand to the other students with their work.  Cecila is very honest and respectful.  She goes out of her way to show good manners.  She always comes into the center with a positive attitude and an infectious grin.  She will say hello to the staff and has even made friends with some of the moms in the waiting area.

And when we asked her parents, they (while obviously biased), thinks she's terrific for so many reasons! "She is super interested in learning new things, and is willing to learn how to do things just to help me out," said her mom, Joann Martineau. "For example, I think she can cook just as many meals as I can at this point and they are delicious!" Her dad, Javier Luzarraga, added that "Cecilia is also super-organized and always knows what she has to accomplish and gets it done. She is motivated and is always willing to try new things and make herself a better person." The both agreed that Cecilia is sensitive and loving and has a fun sense of humor. They said their greatest joy is watching her grow up to see how she contributes in this world.

We are not just proud of Cecilia and all her academic success at Kumon, but we feel we are lucky to have her as a student at our center. We can't wait to introduce you to her, so without further ado:

Union County Macaroni Kid (UCMK): Hi Cecilia, thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself with us. Can you tell our readers what grade you are in?

Cecilia Luzarraga (CL): I am in 5th grade at Antioch Elementary School.

UCMK: What's your favorite subject?

CL: Social Studies; I enjoy learning about history

UCMK: What's your least favorite?

CL: Although I like reading, I don’t like the schoolwork associated with reading classes.

UCMK: What do you like to do for fun?

CL: I like to read books, jog with the dogs, go bike riding, and draw.

UCMK: What about sports or music? Do you enjoy those?

CL: I participate in Girls on the run and I am preparing to run a 5K. I am also in acting classes, and I am rehearsing for a production in local theater.

UCMK: What is one thing you wish you could change and why?

CL: I wish that there were fewer plastic bags in production, because I think that we could use recyclable bags and avoid destroying the environment unnecessarily.

UCMK: What do you like most about yourself?

CL: I think I am a good friend. I think I am a good listener and that I give good advice when asked.

UCMK: Who do you admire most?

CL: I really admire my guidance counselor at school because she is so kind and patient with the students
