5 Breakfast Joints You're Sure to Love

Our top breakfast spots around Union County!

February 19, 2020

Breakfast - its not just what's for breakfast! But seriously, its only fitting that the BEST meal of the day is the FIRST meal of the day. Our family loves a good breakfast. The boys probably are more adventurous with their breakfast foods than they are with anything else and they could eat it for every meal of the day if given that choice. UCMK rounded up our five local favorites. Some have more robust menus, some less, but all are delicious!

Johnny K's

134 Indian Trail Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079

Hours: Mon - Sat 6 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. ; Sunday 6 a.m. -  2:30 p.m.

What we love: A true-no frills, home-cooked vibe is what draws us to Johnny K's. We're simple when we go there - eggs, pancakes, omelettes, meat and hashbrowns. The service is good and the kids don't need to be quiet ;-)

Omega Coney Island

3901 Old Monroe Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079

Hours: Mon - Fri 7 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. ; Saturday: 7 a.m - 2:30 p.m.;  Sunday 8 a.m. -  2:30 p.m.; BREAKFAST ALL DAY

What we love: We really do love everything here, but the boys are partial to the French Toast Breakfast and David's a fan of either the Greek Omelette or one of the Hash options. Personally, I love a good tuna melt and - even if its 9 a.m. - that's what I get. Omega has particularly good tuna salad and they prepare the melt so well. It's hard to deviate!

Stacks Kitchen

1315 N. Broome St., Waxhaw, NC 28173

Hours: Daily 6 a.m. - 3 p.m.

What we love: With a gigantic menu and breakfast served all day, there are too many options to just chose one. I will say that the Healthy Start (chicken breast and eggs) is always a fan-favorite when I go with my girlfriends. If you are looking for something more decadent, for a savory option chose the Country Benedict and for a sweet option, the Stuffed French Toast. The staff is always ready with a fresh cup of coffee and the place is always jam packed. You should be prepared to wait. If you'd rather take-out, you can grab any item from the bakery to go and the cinnamon buns do NOT disappoint!

Your GG's Kitchen

5719 W. HWY 74, Indian Trail, North Carolina

Hours: Wed - Thurs 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.; Friday 11 - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Sunday is 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

What we love: This is a TRUE family restaurant. All of the recipes are scratch-made, family treasures and absolutely delicious. Robert and Cheryl are always there and, last we went, their older son was our server and younger son popped out to say hi. When you get there with littles, there are legos to play with at the table and...once a month, Cheryl even hosts a lego play date in the upstairs of this quaint little spot on Independence. The food....oh, the food. French Toast Lasagna and the Mad Scientist are two of our favorites, but last visit my youngest had a breakfast sandwich that put all other breakfast sandwiches to shame. It was on special, but everything there is special - so, there's that.

Stone Table, Monroe

101 W Franklin St; Monroe, NC 28112

Hours: Mon - Wed 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Thursday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Fri/Sat 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 9p.m.; Closed on Sunday

What we love: Full disclosure, we have NOT eaten here but it is on our bucket list of breakfast spots. We tried a few weeks ago and it was packed, the kids were starving and I just couldn't bring myself to make them wait and make other patrons feel their wrath of hanger. I've been told that their Grits Breakfast is not to be missed and that the grits are among the best in the state. While the menu isn't huge, it is all locally-sourced and grown; and for those of you appreciate that as much as we do, it's a must-go on the list!
