Spirited Sprout ~ A Sensory Play Space ~ Opens in Waxhaw

Grand Opening this weekend!

By Interview by Rachael Weiss, Publisher, Union County Macaroni Kid January 8, 2020

This weekend, Waxhaw is gaining a new sensory play space catering to sensory-seekers of all ages. Union County Macaroni Kid sat down with Spirited Sprout founder, Ashley Redden, as she prepares for her long-awaited Grand Opening this weekend and talked about her vision, her passion and the purpose of sensory play.

Ashley is a Waxhaw mama of two spirited toddlers who simply had a vision and a mission and nothing was going to stand in her way!

Union County Macaroni Kid (UCMK):  What gave you this idea?

Ashley Redden (AR):  I have a long backstory that has lead to the discovery of my purpose and passion to develop Spirited Sprout LLC. My personal mission is to create lifelong memories with your family, by creating a safe, judgement free place that engages each family right where they are!

UCMK:  What is sensory Play?

AR:  Sensory play is for everyone! As a mama & nurse, I observe my own toddlers craving human connection, physical activity, and sensorial stimulation. These are the ingredients we all need to grow a healthy body and brain. In many play places, this essential need is often over looked. We have chosen eye pleasing equipment that includes, soft play, indoor playsets, therapy-grade swings/slides and much more. Along our walls, you will find touches of STEM, Montessori, and Waldorf inspiration.

UCMK:  What are the ages and populations you will serve?

AR:  We are so excited to say that our age limit during normal play hours is three months to five years old. HOWEVER, we offer the play space for any age, outside of normal hours with special reservation or request! We want ALL children & adults  (no matter their developmental level or ability) to be able to visit our space. The majority of our space is modifiable to wheelchair and well exceeds the weight capacity to accommodate. We are NOT a replacement for therapy— however, we do open our doors to pediatric PT, OT, and speech therapists! You may see one hosting a unique class from time to time, or working with a client!

UCMK:  What can we expect?

AR:  We will be offering workshops and open play but we are growing, too! We are looking for volunteers, interns, potential staff, therapists, and families to join and play here. Please support my very personal mission of creating a space in our community for nurturing inclusivity, so we can watch the spirited sprouts we raise, really SPROUT!

**Join us as we open our doors for the VERY first time to the Waxhaw area and surrounding communities! We hope our small business grows to fulfill big big dreams! Please support by sharing with your friends and family.
