4 Union County Kids and Their Side-Hustles

COV Hasn't Been All Doom and Gloom for These Union County Kiddos!

By Rachael Weiss ~ Publisher, Union County Macaroni Kid September 14, 2020

Boredom isn't always the root of evil - and for these Union County kids, dialing back our uber-busy lives during Covid stay-home/safer at home orders created a new opportunity for side-hustle exploration!

Union County Macaroni Kid reached out to parents and kids who have dialed into their entrepreneurial spirit and created some pretty awesome businesses.  Ranging from tree farms to baked goods, dog treats to wear-ables - we have some incredible kids in our area and I've highlighted some below so you can see just how amazing they are!

Pretty Paws Treats founder, Parker Hill, is a 13 year old entrepreneur! She started Pretty Paws Treats during quarantine. "I have always been passionate about baking and I plan to open a food truck when I get to high school," she shared with me, "but I wanted to start something sooner and quarantine gave me the time to do that." Her dog Sadie is her favorite "person" so she was the inspiration for Pretty Paws Treats! Not only was Parker thankful they were quarantined together for the companionship, but also for the free food-testing she was able to provide (lol!). Pretty Paws Treats is made with high-quality ingredients that are dog safe, so the treats look good enough for humans to eat (and you could eat them) and healthy for the dogs! Parker wants all dogs to get the bougie-treat experience and i looking forward to hearing from dog-parents all around Union County!  You can order yours HERE

When Gavin McManus's dad was laid off due to COV, he could have just sat around and played video games like so many 12 year olds do. Instead, his dad started small antique store (Mac's Treasure & More) and this budding entrepreneur put his love for cooking and baking to work and opened Gavin's Baked Goods, selling his delicious creations inside the store! Each week he creates one flavor and his best seller is the Banana Chocolate Chip Mini-loaves. You can reach him HERE

Like so many of us, COV presented Kinsley Serrao (10) with time to learn something new. Motivated by the desire for new earbuds, she decided to turn that new-found hobby into a side-hustle. Crocheting with her grandma had always been fun, but when the mask mandate went into effect and she realized that we'd be wearing them for a while to come, she also saw an opportunity. So, she began crocheting ear-savers for your masks. You can get them by reaching out to her HERE. I can say with authority that they help quite a lot - my son uses his daily at school! She has also started making hats, headbands and sweaters - and you can see more of her work on her Facebook page

Rachel Smith, a middle schooler, really stepped out of her comfort zone durning her quarantine at home! This young woman decided to start a tree farm! She's growing Easter Red Bud's and Japanese Maples - both seedlings and harvesting those tree seeds. Don't believe, me? Watch this video and learn all about Rachel's Tree Farm
